3. How to Program Your Success GPS

Success is generally defined as the accomplishment of an aim or a purpose, a favorable or desired outcome, or the achievement of one’s aim or goal. But what I know for sure is that success is what we define it as, what we make of it, and success is an inside job. We need to find our own way there, so it’s time to program your Success GPS.
External success without internal self-love, appreciation, passion and purpose will always fall flat. Hi, I am Deidrea Kiesling, and this is The Success Minded Woman episode three. Today, I'm going to share with you how to program your life like a GPS to create the success that you want in your life. Stay tuned.

The Googles say that success is the accomplishment of an aim or a purpose, a favorable or desired outcome. The achievement of one's aim or goal. But what I know for sure is that success is what we define it, and success is what we make of it and success is an inside job. External success without the internal self-love and appreciation and following your passion and purpose will fall flat. It will be unsettled.
If you are listening to this podcast you have big dreams and goals and you are committed to achieving them. There is a way to get it done. There is a way to create your dream come true life so here we go. I love the idea of thinking about our life like a GPS, a global positioning system, just like the ones in your car or on your phone you can program your life. And when you are programming your GPS there are two things that you must know to program a GPS. So just like if you were programming it to go someplace you have to know where you are and you have to know where you're going.
And without these two things, your GPS cannot help you. So step one, where are you? Where are you in your life? Look around at everything in your life, what is working and what's not working and what do you want to change? So it could be in your health and fitness area. It could be in your family, in your home, in your business, in your career. Look around and figure out what's working and what's not working. And what do you want to do differently? So some of the things could be your habits, your routines, just your day-to-day.
What parts of your life do you love? What parts of your life are just okay? And what parts of your life do you really want to change? So that is just so good to know about where you are. Do you love your life? Are you happy in your career? Are you happy in your romantic relationship? What areas do you want to improve or change in your life? What results do you have in your life? How do you spend your day? What are you thinking about most of the time?
So make a list of all the things in your life, your weight, your money, your net worth, the revenue in your business, the house that you live in, all the things. Look around, everything that you have in your life you created. I think sometimes we forget this. That we are responsible for the results in our lives. So once you really take a look at where you are, take an inventory of all of the circumstances in your life you also want to think about who you are. Who are you being in your life? Do you feel like you're being your best self? Are you being your most authentic true self?
Because what I know for sure is that in order to change to create the next best version of yourself, of your life you have to change and that is the work, that is the journey. It's not just what you need to do but who you need to be to do the things that you need to do to create the life that you want to have. Because the truth is, wishing and dreaming without change, it may give you short-term relief and move you from complaining about your circumstances to envisioning different ones. But until you put that into action it won't happen.
And I love this other quote, ‘If you don't follow your dreams someone else will and then they will have the dream that you're wanting.’ So you are unique. You are special. You are one of a kind. The world will never have another person just like you. Your unique fingerprints, your DNA, your destiny, there is only one. No one has the unique soul print that you have.
And I love this quote by Mary Oliver, ‘So what is your plan for your one wild and precious life?’ And any level of success that you want in your life you get to define it and you get to say what it is that you want in your life.
And so step two is to really think about where you’re going. What is that dream come true life? What is that living the best version of my life, the best version of myself? I like to start with asking this question and this is a question that I ask all of my coaching clients, what would you love? What is the life that you would love living? Have you ever thought about that, really what is the life that you would love living? Where is your life going? Where is your business going?
Most people don't ask themself this question and then they just keep repeating the same day, the same week, the same year over and over again wanting something more but not achieving it. So the next thing that you want to do is to really think about this vision for yourself. What do you want? What would you love? And then notice what you’re noticing. Your life is speaking to you. Your longings and your discontent, what you are wanting, is wanting you. Your vision is your gift. It is given to you and it's your job to follow it, not to question it or doubt it, just step into it.
Don't stretch too far too fast, your belief has to match for your dream. Your history does not predict your destiny. And just like you wouldn’t build a house without a blueprint and to create a blueprint you first have to imagine what you want. So notice what you're noticing. If you feel jealous, that’s probably because they have something that you want. Could be a tangible thing like a house or a car, vacations, a healthy fit body. But it could also be intangible things like they seem happy. They seem to be enjoying their life. They have friends and an active social life.
You wouldn't even notice if there wasn’t a part of you that it was meant for you. So let’s say you see someone with purple hair and if you have no desire for purple hair you won’t have any ping of an urge of a thought or a feeling about what it would be like for you to have purple hair. You would have no judgment about it, and it would cause no feelings for you. You would have no emotional reaction to this person with purple hair.
But if you saw someone with purple hair and you feel this ping of a longing, of a discontent and you have thoughts like I wish I was brave enough to have purple hair. I really like how purple hair looks on her. I wonder what it would look like on me to have purple hair. Then there is part of you that wants purple hair. There is a part of you that has the identity of someone who would have the confidence to walk around with purple hair and be proud of their appearance.
So where do you want to go, the life you want, the goals you want to achieve, you must have a clear vision of this because if you don't know where you're going it will be hard to get there. And how will you know when you get there? If you don’t get this step of really taking the time to dream, to create the vision you are living by the circumstances of your life instead of creating the circumstances of your life. And what does it mean to create the circumstances of your life? It means to take full responsibility for your life and for where it's going and to have complete ownership of your future.
What is the purpose of your life? What do I want out of my life? Find what makes you come alive and do that. What the world needs is more people that have come alive. And I love this five-point test to see if your dream is worthy of you. And this is from Mary Morrissey. She says number one, “Does it give me life? Make sure it’s your dream and not somebody else's. Number two, does it align with my core values? Number three, would it cause me to grow? Number four, do I need help from a higher power, higher intelligence, higher thinking? Number five, is there good in this for others?”
So if you answer yes to all of those five-point test it is a life worth living. It is a dream worth pursuing. And I love this quote by Howard Thurman, ‘Some journeys are direct, and some are circuitous.’ I don’t know how to say that. ‘Some are heroic and some are fearful and medaled but every journey honestly undertaken stands a chance of taking us toward the place where our deep gladness meets the world's deep need. So don't ask yourself with the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and go do that because what the world needs is people who have come alive.’
So what is your big dream? What is your best life? Where is it that you want to go? And once you really have that clarity of where you are and where you want to go, those two inputs for your GPS then you can start figuring it out, taking the steps, the action that you need to do to create that dream, that vision and the steps, the middle, the roadmap is the way. And the first part of the journey to get from where you are to where you want to go, your GPS for success, it starts with these two questions, where am I and where do I want to go?
And the bigger question is, what would I love? So what I like to think about and what I want you to think about and say to yourself is, what can I do from where I am, with what I have right now? This will move you in the direction of your dream. I said yes to my dream of being a life coach and having this podcast. And now I'm helping my clients and you say yes to your dreams. I like to think about it this way. You're going to create a life anyway. Why not create your dream come true life?
And I love this quote by Goethe, ‘Whatever you can do or dream you can begin, boldness has genius, power and magic in it.’ And another quote, I’m doing a lot of quotes today from Mark Twain, ‘20 years from now you will be more disappointed with the things you didn't do than the things that you did.’ And what I know for sure is that dreams are killed by the slow death of delay and the biggest dream killers are doubt, overwhelm, fear and confusion. So the antidote for that is clarity, focus, ease and grace and you step into that by embarking on this journey on your roadmap for your GPS for success.

So your action step, your homework, take some time to journal about where you are and where you’re going. Take an honest assessment of your life, what’s working, what's not working and what do I wish was different? Allow yourself to dream big and journal about the best version of yourself in your life.
